SC allows cellphone service providers to deduct taxes on mobile top-up

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday allowed cellphone service providers to deduct taxes on top-up of prepaid cards months after stopping them from tax deduction, ARY News reported.

The apex court, while taking back the interim order issued in June last year, allowed cellphone service providers to deduct taxes on mobile top-up.

The court had suspended the deduction of taxes imposed on top-up of prepaid cards by cellphone service providers and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in June 2018.

This restraining order came during the hearing of a case pertaining to unreasonable and high tax deduction from the topping up of cell phone balance.

Headed by then chief justice Mian Saqib Nisar, the SC bench had given the authorities concerned two days to ensure implementation of its order.
