MUSCAT: Pakistan’s penalty corner specialist, Irfan Sr. will miss the all-important final of Asian Hockey Champions Trophy against India on Sunday due to an ankle injury.

Irfan Sr suffered the injury against Malaysia in the semi-final of the tournament, which Pakistan won on a penalty shoot-out to set up the high-voltage final against the arch-rivals.

The thrilling final of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy will start at 10:10 at Muscat at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

Earlier, Pakistan defeated Malaysia, in a penalty shoot-out where the game was tied at 4-4 at the end of the regulation period of play. But, the Men in Green clinched the all-important victory in the penalty shootout.

The two-time champions, Pakistan will enter the final with a winning momentum, having won five of their last games in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy.

On the other hand, India reached the final by beating Japan in the semi-final by 3-2.

Indians will be confident facing Pakistan as they defeated them in their previous encounter of the tournament by 3-1. Moreover, the last time these two teams clashed in the final of this tournament in 2016, India emerged as victorious with a scoreline of 3-2.

India also have won this tournament twice, in 2011 and 2016.
