ISLAMABAD: The verdict of Lahore High Court (LHC) to approve the nomination papers of former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for NA-57 was challenged in Supreme Court on Thursday.
Petitioner Masood Ahmed Abbasi moved the top court against the verdict given by LHC to accept nomination papers of erstwhile premier paving his way to contesting July 25 polls from NA-57, Rawalpindi-I constituency.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar ordered to constitute a bench ton Ahmed Abbasi’s petition.
The petition contended that Abbasi “misstated facts” in his nomination papers.
Lahore High Court’s decision should be declared null and void, the petitioner pleaded while maintainingg that Abbasi should not be allowed to contest in the upcoming general elections.
On July 29, the LHC allowed Abbasi to contest from his home constituency of NA-57, Rawalpindi-I after the appellate tribunal rejected his nomination papers and disqualified him for life.
